Your experience and perspectives are the only way that we can ensure Lakeland Regional Medical Center offers the best patient care programs and practices.

To leverage the talent of our nurses, we established a Nursing Governance structure. If something needs to change, our nurses talk about it and offer solutions through the Governance. Often, the suggestions that come from Nursing Governance become hospital policies.

It's our way of empowering you, of providing an opportunity for nurses to shape, define, create and evaluate professional nursing practice at LRMC. It's the active involvement you've been looking for and a structure that puts you in control while benefitting patients and our Nursing Governance structure helps us ensure an uncompromising standard of nursing care.

The Governance comprises several nursing councils, which cover different departments and a range of areas including recruitment and retention. Recommendations are then made using best practice, thorough research and solid evidence. Among the changes that have come out of the Governance are the following:

• A shift to hospital-wide governance at the department level, allowing individual departments to benefit from active involvement
• Participation of nurses at a unit level, resulting in greater involvement in governance for RNs
• Enhancement of the image of nurses at LRMC, including nursing-specific information on the website and printed communications throughout the hospital
• Daily changes to the policies and procedures for nursing practice
